When Enhanced Due Diligence Changes Account Onboarding

An identity document may be sufficient for one stage of an application, while another case requires evidence about ownership or the origin of funds. Enhanced due diligence (EDD) means additional scrutiny where the assessed risk calls for it. We do not treat every applicant as a higher-risk client. Clear evidence can reduce follow-up requests.

When the usual account checks are not enough

Customer due diligence (CDD) establishes who the client is and helps us understand the proposed business relationship. For a company, it also involves understanding the ownership and control structure. Checks depend on the case.

Enhanced due diligence adds measures appropriate to higher-risk circumstances. We may examine transactions, ownership or asset origins. Certain politically exposed person relationships and other legally specified situations may require additional measures; a label alone does not explain an applicant’s individual assessment.

The FCA’s review of CDD and EDD controls describes the importance of documented, risk-based checks. A request for further evidence therefore does not automatically mean refusal. The review determines the next step.

Which evidence answers which question

When you begin opening a trading account with us, we ask for information appropriate to your application. The exact supporting documents can vary. These examples explain common evidence requests.

What we need to understand Evidence that may help
Identity and residential address Valid identity document and suitable address evidence
Corporate ownership and control Company registry extract, ownership chart and beneficial-owner details
Source of funds for a transfer Relevant account records and documentation tracing the particular money
Source of wealth over time Records showing how assets or business wealth accumulated
Purpose of the relationship Expected activity, relevant business background and trading objectives

Source of funds and source of wealth answer different questions. A statement showing the bank from which a deposit arrives may
establish its immediate path but may not explain how that money was earned. Source-of-wealth evidence concerns the wider accumulation of assets, which may involve employment, business proceeds or other documented events.

We seek evidence appropriate to the verification question.

A corporate application is not the same as a personal account

An individual normally supplies evidence about personal identity and the intended account activity. A corporate applicant may also need to identify directors, authorised signatories and the people who ultimately own or control the entity.

Complex ownership chains can require documents from more than one company or jurisdiction. We may need to trace ownership through parent companies. No single document list covers every structure.

Please confirm current requirements with our team, particularly where documents require certification or translation. Published examples do not establish a fixed onboarding timetable.

A three-stage document review

Before submission, check that names, company numbers, addresses and dates agree across your documents. Use readable copies that show the complete page, including relevant dates. If a document is in another language, ask us whether a translation or
    certification is needed.

During a follow-up, we may explain which point remains unclear and request focused evidence. Respond to that question directly. Repeated incomplete information cannot resolve a discrepancy.

At verification and decision, our team assesses the available information against the applicable requirements. Further checks may remain necessary. Providing documents cannot guarantee acceptance, and the assessment may continue through ongoing monitoring
    after onboarding.

What we can confirm before you send anything

Contact our team to establish the account category, expected document types and approved submission method. We can clarify whether particular copies need certification, whether a translation is suitable and how to identify the correct application
    reference.

Do not send identity records, bank statements or ownership documents to an unverified address or through an unsolicited link. Request a confirmed channel before sharing sensitive material. If a file is incomplete or difficult to read, ask what replacement
    will answer the question.

Enhanced due diligence supports a documented account decision and appropriate financial-crime controls. We aim to make information requests clear while protecting the confidentiality of the material you share.
